We deliver complex transportation projects throughout Illinois with many exciting and challenging projects ongoing & more in pipeline. We are looking for a transportation lead who can help deliver this roadway scope, as well as expand our multidisciplinary capabilities and position us to compete for increasingly complex IDOT, Tollway, and transportation projects.  

 

About the Job 

We are looking for a licensed Senior Roadway Manager (Illinois PE) with 10+ years of experience to join our growing team. This is a leadership role for an experienced engineer who wants to help shape, influence, and build something from the ground up to lead and grow our roadway/civil practice. 

You will be involved in every phase of project delivery, from project scoping and planning through final design and plan production for highways, roadways, and related transportation infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with the client and other engineering disciplines, to deliver technically sound, impactful infrastructure projects.  We have a strong pipeline of challenging transportation work ahead and are looking for an experienced engineer ready to lead, mentor, and take an exciting next step in their career. 

 

What You'll Do 

  • Lead the growth and development of the transportation/roadway department at 10-4 Engineering. 

  • Serve as Project Manager and/or Engineer of Record on roadway and civil infrastructure projects. 

  • Hiring, on-boarding, developing, mentoring of engineering staff, including technical guidance. 

  • Point of contact for client on roadway projects to relay technical and administrative information. 

  • Represent the company at client/agency meetings, conferences, interviews, and industry events. 

  • Preparation of statement of interest and technical writeups for Project Approaches and proposals. 

  • Scoping, budget development and monitoring; lead contract preparations and negotiations. 

  • Guiding the firm’s development of any roadway work: calculations, plans, specs, and estimates. 

  • Oversee design for roadway geometry, drainage, MOT, utilities, grading, and related components. 

  • Developing roadway alternatives and coordinating with other disciplines throughout Phase I and II. 

  • Ensure compliance with IDOT, Tollway, federal, and local agency highway standards. 

  • Coordinate closely with structural, geotech, hydraulics to meet functional and geometric needs. 

 

What We're Looking For 

  • Based in the Chicago area or willing to relocate. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. A Master’s degree is a plus. 

  • An Illinois PE license is required. 

  • At least 10+ years of roadway design experience, ideally with IDOT or Illinois Tollway projects. 

  • Mastery and extensive experience with FHWA, IDOT, Tollway and other relevant design codes. 

  • Mastery and extensive experience with Microstation and Open Roads Designer are a must. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to make quick and confident decisions. 

  • Ability to keep projects organized within scope and schedule while guiding junior engineers. 

  • Highly organized with the ability to manage/lead multiple projects and priorities. 

  • A genuine interest in contributing to a growing, small, close-knit firm and team. 

 

Compensation & What We Offer 

  • Base salary: $135,000 – $200,000 

  • Compensation will vary based on experience level, résumé/portfolio, technical skills, licensure, leadership/industry impact, and overall fit. 

  • Fifteen (15) days of paid time off each year
