About the Job
We are looking for a licensed Structural Department Manager, Bridges with 12+ years of experience to join our growing team. This is a rare opportunity to work directly alongside our founding partners on high-profile transportation projects while playing a key role in shaping and leading our structural practice. You will manage our structural staff, assist with business development, and manage project delivery, from scoping and negotiating through final design and plan production of structural scope. You will coordinate closely with our clients, as well as roadway, geotechnical, hydraulics, and construction disciplines to deliver infrastructure projects that make a meaningful impact in the communities we serve. We have a strong pipeline of challenging bridge projects ahead and are looking for an experienced structural engineer ready to lead, mentor, and take an exciting next step in their career.
What You'll Do

Developing and mentoring of current engineering staff, including technical guidance as needed.

Recruiting, on-boarding, and training of new structural staff as needed.

Project management, developing structural alternatives, coordinating with other disciplines.

Guiding the firm’s development of any structural work: calculations, plans, specs, and estimates.

Point of contact for client on structural projects to relay technical and administrative information.

Represent the company at client/agency meetings, conferences, interviews, and industry events.

Assist with preparation of Statements of Interest and technical writeups for Project Approach.

Scoping, budget development and monitoring; lead contract preparations and negotiations.

Plan and lay out new structures in coordination with proposed roadway & railway improvements.

Develop bridge type studies and propose cost effective and durable structural solutions.

Steer all aspects of the planning phase of design, including finalization of BCRs and TS&Ls.

Actively guide and check the development of Phase II final plans, specifications, and estimates.

Coordinate closely with roadway, hydraulics, geotechnical to meet functional and geometric needs.

Perform inspection, assessment and load ratings of existing bridges, retaining walls, and culverts.

Prepare detailed condition reports, develop repair options, and estimate construction costs.
What We're Looking For

Based in the Chicago area or willing to relocate.

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural focus. A Master’s degree is a plus.

An SE license in Illinois is required. IDOT Bridge Inspection Team Leader is strongly preferred.

At least 12+ years of structural design experience, ideally with IDOT or Illinois Tollway projects.

Mastery and extensive experience with AASHTO, AREMA, IDOT BM and other bridge design codes.

Skilled in structural analysis and design software. Ability to perform quick calcs to check results.

Strong written and verbal communication. Ability to make quick and confident decisions.

Ability to keep projects organized within scope and schedule while guiding junior engineers.

Highly organized and has the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

A genuine interest in contributing to a growing, small, close-knit firm and team.
Compensation & What We Offer

Base salary: $150,000 – $200,000/year

Compensation will vary based on experience level, résumé/portfolio, technical skills, licensure, leadership/industry impact, and overall fit.
